I have talked to over a dozen people since Obama was re-elected about what that means to Survival Preppers. It seems many are now concerned that without the need or chance to be re-elected second Obama administration can implement not only economic regulations that will hurt preppers but the Government is in position to implement changes to our second amendment freedoms as well as our very liberty.
Some of these people I have talked to cannot articulate what they are concerned about other than gun control. They have some vision of impending economic doom,.... and as middle of the road as I am, I can't say that they are completly mistaken.
I think besides the chance of an economic collapse being greater with a continuation of the the fiscal policies of the last four years, the real two possible threats to preppers are the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and the United Nations Small Arms Treaty.
National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)
The NDAA authorizes the military to: 1) detainment of persons captured within the United States of America without charge or trial, 2) prosecute said persons through military tribunals for persons captured within the United States 3) the transfer of persons captured within the United States of America to foreign nations (foreign jurisdictions).
Of course this is in violation of the Constitution of the United States of America. But the Government's point is to trust them, they will be very select in using the provisions of the NDAA on American citizens. In fact Senator Carl Levin stated on the floor of the Senate that the NDAA did not pertain to citizens of the U.S. But not we now know that the Office of the President of the United States, requested that such restriction be removed from the 2012 NDAA.
What is more troubling is that the NDAA passed the Senate. An amendment from Senator Udall to forbid the indefinite detention of U.S. citizens, was was rejected by a vote of 38–60, along party lines.
What this means is that most of the 4th, 5th and 6th amendment rights that U.S. citizens have enjoyed for a couple hundred years now can be taken away by the U.S Government, presumably the Justice Department, using military assets which are free of restrictions of statutory authority that Federal Law Enforcement agencies have. Potential loses of these rights:
The right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures (4th Amendment);
The right to be free from charge for an infamous or capitol crime until presentment or indictment by a Grand Jury (5th Amendment;
The right to be free from deprivation of life, liberty, or property, without Due Process of law (5th Amendment);
The right to a speedy trial by an impartial jury of our peers in the State or District where the alleged crime shall have been committed (6th Amendment);
The right to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation and to confront witnesses (6th Amendment);
The right to Legal Counsel (6th Amendment; and even the right to be free from excessive bail and fines, and cruel and unusual punishment with comes from the 8th Amendment;
The threat here is possible and becomes real if the Government continues to lump survival preppers into anti-government threats groups like the right wing militas and anarchists, like they have with various "intelligence reports" from Department of Homeland Security.
UN Arms Treaty,..and It Will Happen
I previously wrote about this back in August - that post is here.
If you think that a conservative House of Representatives would not allow this happen, you are both right and wroing. If it was in the power of the House it would not happen, but the House is not a player in approval/disapproval of this treaty. Let me write that again" It does not matter what Congress wants or does not want - this power is in the President's hands.
If two thirds of the U.N. main body (general membership - not the security council) votes for this treaty, then this treaty becomes defacto law for at least four years unless rejected by the President or the Senate. If this treaty goes into effect it will have the effect of a Constitutional Amendment. Let me say that again,....If this treaty goes into effect it will have the effect of a Constitutional Amendment superceding the 2nd Amendment. The Supreme Court precedence is that International Treaties, that the U.S. is a signature to, trumps U.S. Law. And again, the U.S. will be de facto signatures unless either the President or the Senate reject it.
And speaking of the Senate,....figure the odds on a newly re-elected Barack Obama rejecting this Treaty. Figure the odds on Senator Harry Reid even allowing a vote on this in the Senate. And what is scary is that only a reported 51 Senators, prior to the last election, were against the original treaty. The new Senate will have even more Senators supporting this treaty. The treaty would require nations to register guns and their owners.
Certain types of guns will be outlawed. And the subsequent U.S. Government performance in the treaty provisions will most assuredly require no notice inspections of those people considered to own "arsenals".
The threat here is probably that the UN Arms Treaty will effect gun onwers and since Survival preppers are indivudually responsible for their own security, the ability to own guns and buy ammuniton will certainly be adversely effected by the UN Arms Treaty.
This threat is probable and becomes real if the Government decides to enact compliance with the teay by going after the Survival community because we are open, easy and law abdiing targets,...read "easy targets" to score some initial victories in removing the "excessive guns threats". And since Preppers are preparing to survive a sceanrio where there is not government, we could be seen as "anarchists planning for no government".
Very scary times my friends.
For more information, I suggest going to the excellent Town Hall article on the UN Arms Treaty

Before I say anything im a former military man.And Law enforcement I believe in our country and our people as awhole. Our hard working class made this nation what it onces was a country to look uptoo. NOW WE ARE A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY. What are you will to fight for too keep your Rights that so many dead for too make us a nation.
ReplyDeleteTwo points: 1. Look around at how many people refused to vote in 2012 as a political statement or voted for Ron Paul (again as a political statement). Although Romney was not my favorite choice and would not "save us" all from disaster, he is so much better then Obama that it was a no brainer. So who's fault is this???
ReplyDelete2. Easy solution to the two threats. Don't break any laws. If the Democrats do succeed in outlawing assault weapons then obey the law (and/or bury the offending weapons very deep). VOTE! Damn it VOTE and quit whining now that the Kenyan Liar-in-Chief is president. Vote the left out of congress and the administration. Yes voting isn't perfect and yes the Democrats probably got a couple million votes totally fraudulently but that is the reason we must vote so that the margin is too great for them to steal an election.
What I find funny is the idea that the government couldn't have done anything they wanted with your sorry butt BEFORE NDAA...
ReplyDeleteWhat I find down right hilarious, is that if (IF) the President so desperately desired to strip us of our guns and constitutional rights, any of you think he'd wait... bide his time until AFTER an election that he had every possibility of losing, and then suddenly go 'Ah ha... Now I've got them!' lol... That's just bad poker!
As far as economic collaps, let's be frank. Bush walked into office with a surplus. A booming economy! And he tanked it. Obama walked in the door already losing 750,000 jobs every month. He stopped the hemeraging. Then reversed it. Like him personally or not is your buisness, but the man has brains most of us can't dream of. Degree's from some pretty heady schools. Greaduated Harvard, Summa Cum Laude. (As did his father before him!)
As for Mitt... Fucker fled to France to dodge the draft durring Vietnam. Not the kind of coward I'd follow. Not the grocery store!
You're absolutely right Chris! We are in such great hands now I can't understand why half the population is so upset.
DeleteI'll bet that you can probably clear up the complete misunderstanding many of us have about half the population being morally degenerate as I'm sure you have no problem taking your wife for a walk down the streets of Detroit at 3AM, or any other city, because our Country is just fantastic and full of moral citizens. Why not try that in Chicago or DC, or NJ or NY where you can't arm yourself to protect your wife, or yourself for that matter? That's not a glimpse at all of our future gun rights under this administration, our leaders "got brains."
Your understanding of entitlements, debt and deficit is probably unmatched to anyone's. You must be a master at discussing and defending the international banking system and our dollar as the reserve currency. I'm sure credit default swaps make perfect sense to you, the banks had to do something to make up for such low interest rates right? There's no bubble forming at all and the rest of us need to just wake up to that.
You are truly the man. In fact, I think your complete knowledge of the world stage just shines through and can't be argued with. The rest of us just have our head in the sand and we should just shut up and accept Socialism and just help feed the slow death of our Republic. America is so great and our leadership is just outstanding.
I'm glad you can sit back and find the tragedies sweeping our Nation "hilarious." Thanks for posting and I hope you have the last laugh... jackass.
Chris,
DeleteYour level of ignorance should be expected by many as typical. It's a tactic of the left to claim conservatives have no facts, and then turn around and spout brainless things like "Bush walked into office with a surplus. A booming economy! And he tanked it".
Really? Oh please enlighten us! Here are some facts for you:
1. The surplus in the budget present at the end of Clinton's terms came from economic growth that occurred during the Clinton Administration though to no credit of it's own - AND - because of the Contract with America and balanced budget efforts brought by Newt Gingrinch (then-Speaker) and Congressional Republicans. It didn't come about because of Clinton, rather in spite of him.
2. What is important from Clinton's administration (aside from Congressional Republicans efforts to balance the budget) is the repeal of Glass-Steagal in 1999 which had been in place since 1932. This paved the way for so-called exotic financial instruments like CDO, CDS, MBS, etc. It takes some time for the markets to screw themselves, but they got started right at the beginning of Bush's first term.
3. The FED's policies (not the Presidents - in fact, largely independent of who's in the White House) have a larger effect on the markets than any other single factor, outside of demographics. It's widely recognized that the FED attempted to mitigate huge stock market losses in the 2001 decline through the Housing market, making credit too easy, leading to the boom and then the bust in Housing, which nearly took down the entire Financial sector. This has been well written on.
Further, your understanding of what 'stems hemorrhaging (<---- how it's spelled, fyi)' is pathetically lacking. You probably also credit FDR with "rescuing" us from the Great Depression, instead of exacerbating it. It took us 4 years to get back to the same level of unemployment as we started with on inauguration day with Obama. Further, this is according to official figures, which discount out of work people that aren't considered to be "looking" (though by no means new to Obama's administration). According to The Economist (not a conservative publication by any stretch), U.S. unemployment is 15% when you factor that in. In addition, it took us more than $6 Billion in deficit to get us back to square one there (despite Obama's promised to cut the deficit "in half") since Obama's inauguration. Prominent sources, like the WSJ, acknowledge the so-called 'stimulus' funds were spent on non-growth programs that essentially amount to pork barrel spending a la favors for those that helped get you elected.
Awesome.
Regarding Obama's "bad poker", well, I'll let others be the judge. However, he was caught on mic surreptitiously trying to let Medevev know he'd have "more flexibility" after the election. Maybe Harvard-educated Obama should take poker lessons from you.
Finally, as to his ginormous brains, that you can't begin to dream of (speak for yourself please) -- that's just bad comedy, much like your post.
Vietnam? Really? That's the best you can come up with for Romney? The guy's a walking target of reason's to not "like" him, and that's what you've got? What was Obama's career before-hand? Oh, right - community organizer.
You know, when you have 2 choices in a 2 party system, you don't always get what you'd ideally like, but a smart person will take the better of the 2. Obama - guaranteed - wasn't it, regardless of whether you liked Romney or not.
But thank you for your vote. It warms the heart to see participating American patriots who engage in the political system.
Denial
DeleteAnger
Bargaining
Depression
and, Acceptance
Don't worry guys. We'll get through this together!
Oh what witticism. What originality. Oh wait, the denial-acceptance cycle was on CNN. It's not even about Romney or Obama.
DeleteBrainless-ness, no response to any of the myriad of valid points (to say nothing of the importance of the original post), followed by borrowed cliché.
Once again...
You're a stupid fuck.
I'm really not reading much of what you guys are writing. I apologize, but the level of hate you have for your country makes this vet sick...
DeleteI did notice one short rant about letting my wife walk around Chicago unarmed... As luck would have it I do live near Chicago. Burbs to be fair. I also noticed that Wisconin (the only state other than Illinois to NOT have any carry rights) gained such rights durring Obama's first term. Chicago also lost it's Nazi like gun-ban durring this time. Under a democratic Mayor and Governer.
Change comes slowly I'll grant you. But I still haven't seen Obama try and take any of my guns. And many gun laws have been relaxed.
Your arguments still fall short of your fears, dear friends.
(And personally, I think peper spray is better for women. Main reason being they don't have to aim worth shit and they aren't afraid to use it!)
I find it hilarious that concern about what's happening in the country by some posters is equated to 'hate for the country' by Chris. Way to drop the 'vet card, bro!
ReplyDeleteAnd did I miss something, but where is the discussion about his wife and pepper spray? Seriously bro, cut back on the weed.
True story.
And now the fear that Obama would come after our guns has been totally vindicated - b/c he is now. It's not theoretical, it's actual. Nevermind that gun control legislation has been proven by the CDC to have no correlation with reduced crime. Nevermind that CT has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation, including a ban of 'assault rifles'. Nevermind that that gun-free zone did nothing to stop the shooter. But "bad poker" plays on apparently 12/18/2012
