Iran and the Coming Fuel Crunch, Which May Be The Least of Our Concerns

Jairo wrote and said: "Hi again Urban-Man. I don't mean to over do it. However I found this pretty alarming. The things this will do to the price of fuel in this country would most likely push our economy over the side. The price of fuel goes up- so will the price of food, staples and everything else! My preps are far from ready. However this just motivates me to press on. Stay safe, stay prepared!"

Thanks Jairo, you are absolutely right, an economic collapse would result.

Jairo also provided a link to an article about Secretary of Defense Panetta stating that Israel could strike Iran by Spring.

In the article US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta believes there is a "strong possibility" that Israel will strike Iran's nuclear installations this spring, and that President Barack Obama and Panetta are "said to have cautioned the Israelis that the United States opposes an attack, believing that it would derail an increasingly successful international economic sanctions program and other non-military efforts to stop Iran from crossing the threshold," he said.

Israeli media reported in October last year that the option of pre-emptive air strikes on Iran was opposed by the country's intelligence services but favored by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Ehud Barak. Israeli television said Mossad chief Tamir Pardo raised the possibility of a unilateral strike on Iran during a visit last week to Washington.

Additionally, WND also published an article written by Reza Kahlili is a pseudonym for a former CIA operative in Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and the author of the award winning book, “A Time to Betray.” This article, titled "Global Insecurity - Iran warns world of coming great event"

This article, only excerpts are included below, details how even among crippling economic sanctions over its nuclear weapons program, Iran is continuing to prepare itself for war against the West, and now is warning of a coming great event.

“In light of the realization of the divine promise by almighty God, the Zionists and the Great Satan (America) will soon be defeated,” Ayatollah Khamenei, the Iranian supreme leader, is warning. Khamenei, speaking to hundreds of youths from more than 70 countries attending a world conference on the Arab Spring just days ago, told a cheering crowd in Tehran that “Allah’s promises will be delivered and Islam will be victorious.” Khamenei then claimed that the current century as the century of Islam and promised that human history is on the verge of a great event and that soon the world will realize the power of Allah.

Many clerics in Iran have stated that Khamenei is the deputy of the last Islamic messiah on earth and that obedience to him is necessary for the final glorification of Islam. Khamenei has been heard to say that the coming of the last Islamic Messiah, the Shiites’ 12th Imam Mahdi, is near and that specific actions need to be taken to protect the Islamic regime for upcoming events.

Mahdi, according to Shiite belief, will reappear at the time of Armageddon. Selected forces within the Revolutionary Guards and Basij reportedly have been trained under a task force called “Soldiers of Imam Mahdi” and they will bear the responsibility of security and protecting the regime against uprisings. Many in the Guards and Basij have been told that the 12th Imam is on earth, facilitated the victory of Hezbollah over Israel in the 2006 war and soon will announce publicly his presence after the needed environment is created.

Iran is speeding up completion of the nuclear bomb program in which missiles can be armed with nuclear warheads. Iran believes once that’s achieved, Iran can test a nuclear bomb, letting the world know that Iran has joined the nuclear-armed club and that any confrontation will result in destruction of much of the Western world.

The Revolutionary Guards not only can hit all U.S. bases in the Middle East with their ballistic missiles but also reach most capital cities in Western Europe. The Guards, with the help of China and North Korea, are working on intercontinental ballistic missiles. But more dangerous to America, as reported last July, is the Guards action in arming their vessels with long-range ballistic missiles and their expansion of their mission into the Atlantic Ocean, right into the Gulf of Mexico.

And here's the scary part,.....any Iranian military or commercial vessel easily could get right outside the U.S. coastline and in less than 60 seconds fire a ballistic missile armed with a nuclear payload and detonate it over U.S. skies in an electromagnetic attack that would plunge America back into the 18th century. Studies show within just one year after such an attack, two-thirds of Americans would cease to exist and the rest would live under dire conditions.

Possible scenarios that impact on us here in the states:
1. The Israeli's strike Iran, over 40% of the world's oil supplies are disrupted, economic disaster hits our homeland.
2. The Iranians strike Israel and the resulting war, no matter how short, will disrupt oil supplies - read economic disaster here in the states.
3. Possibility of Iranian sponsored nuclear strike(s) in the states, with a resulting SHTF and economic-social and basically total collapse.

  1. Feeling more paranoid than normal this morning, so I'll weigh in.. I can't help but see propaganda and war mongering that leads to a false flag as the reason for attacking Iran. Certainly wouldn't put much credance into worldnetdaily's reporting on Iran or Islam in any event. Is Iran trying to build a nuke? Seems likely. Are they just chomping at the bit to use one on the US or Israel? Doubt it. No one is going to be foolish enough to openly attack a nuclear power, and that more than anything else is my guess why Iran wants a nuke. Not sure if it was discussed here, but found this interesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUZ3t1aWI0g&feature=share

  2. No one except for a religious radical who believes that armegeddon will end with the world being ruled by Islam. Didn't you read and understand that part? Iran will absolutely use the nukes once they have them. The only good news in this is that more then likely due to ignorance of modern warfare and anxiety to make it happen Iran will act before they have more then a couple or more nukes.

There is no arguing with someone who believes all intelligience is "war mongering" or "propaganda". While I don't believe much of what our president and his lackys tell us I do believe my own eyes and unbiased reports. Common sense tells you Iran intends to build the bomb and they have been busting their hump to do it now for a few years. They have the money, the expertise and the where withall. It will happen and since the Israelis are the number one target and since they have the best eyes on the ground I think they have a good reason to want to act by Spring. This is serious folks. No matter which way this goes it will be very bad.

  3. Iran is pretty shifty and shrewd. My guess is they'll start off by selling mini-nukes and letting a couple lone wolfs blow themselves up. Keep their nuke equipped ICBM's on the ready as a 'deterrent'.

As far as trying a naval blockade of oil. They can try it. And it may last a day or two. But there are a lot of countries that keep a few ships in that area for just such a reason. We keep a fleet. One whole fleet. Iran's speed boats and single engine Cessna air force would amount to target practice, and not much more. Consider it a live fire exercise!

  4. I read it Anon@11:28 (and did a little googling on the author, Reza Kahlili - I already know Joseph Farrah of WND's background). Unbiased? Hardly. So, Iran's religous leader believes his holy scriptures prove God is on their side, and has already foretold of their ultimate victory against evil. Surprised by that? If you subscribe to a religion, what do your holy scriptures foretell for you and your people?

Meanwhile back on Earth, check out the history of US/Iran relations for the last 70 years or so and tell us who has more reason to distrust and fear the other. Operation Ajax and the Iran-Iraq war are good places to start.

@Chris - I could see that scenario too, although I wonder if they could be sure the isotope fingerprint from a detonation wouldn't point back to them as the source?

    1. This isn't about Reza Kahlili so it does not matter if you believe him or anyone believes him. It is a FACT that the radical muslims believe that armegeddon will bring muslim dominance of the world. Simple as that and I didn't even have to make a bigoted statement about someone's religion.

If you believe this is about something that happened 70 years ago then you are the one not of this earth. This is about muslim radicals getting the bomb to be used against Israel not some rumor of an offense 70 years ago.

    2. In theory... If I was a psychotic dirt bag who desperately needed... deep down in my soul NEEDED nuclear weapons to compensate for my short stature and small (shoes) but didn't want anyone to know... I'd shake my spear and make noise about my grossly over-enriched Non-weapons grade uranium being made in my 'hidden' mountain fortress... So that nobody bothers to look for my other facility with the real bombs and a totally different isotope fingerprint.

As far as a Surface to surface delivery system... I'd probably build an equally 'peaceful' and totally unnecessary space program. A satellite capable rocket is an ICBM. Plain and simple. Luckily, Iran hasn’t launched a communication satellite in… almost a week!

    3. It's fair to speculate on what Iran might do with a nuke, just don't ignore what we've already done to them - like overthrow their gov't and provide Saddam the chemical weapons capability that killed many thousands of their military and citizens in the Iran-Iraq war. If our roles were reversed, how would you respond?

As to relious radicals and pointing to their scriptures as grounds to kill their enemies, might check out some Netanyahu comments:

  5. Look there are several inconsistent and incorrect items in this article.

1: Less than a week ago, the IAEA issued a report stating rather implicitly that Iran was not developing weapons grade nuclear material.

2: One day after that Israeli Intelligence - the same folks who insisted that Iraq had WMD's - are vociferously insistent that Iran has enough nuclear material for at least 4 weapons and contrary to US intelligence, Iran has developed a long range surface to surface delivery vehicle that could theoretically reach the eastern seaboard of the US.

3: Israel is openly and publicly stating that they will go to war with Iran in April, May, or June. This removes the US as the aggressor, of course we will still be involved, however, it politically hamstrings Russia and China from taking any retaliation against the US directly.

4: It is a well known fact that there are Hezbollah cells within the US, and any open aggression against the Iranian people would very likely result in an attack inside US borders that would make 9/11 look like a church picnic.
Even if the alphabet soup boys were able to stop 99% of any internal, US soil attacks staged by Hezbollah, that 1% could be so devastating as to effectively end freedom as we know it. It would cause an invocation of PDD-51 (continuity of government) and full invocation of the NDAA...well, you get the picture.

    1. While the WND may not be the best source for journalism, one need not rely on it to make the same case . My source is the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), which over the last several years has essentially stated the same. Also Joel Rosenburg makes essentially the same case. Rosenberg is an expert on Middle East issues, particularly Israel and Iran (you can check him out here: flashtrafficblog.wordpress.com and here: www.joelrosenberg.com). About 2 years ago, then-Secretary Gates, who served both Bush and Obama, said Iran would likely have a Nuke in 2 years (WSJ). Then as part of the negotiations with the West/UN, Russia sold enriched nuclear material to Iran, with the rationale that if it was sold, Iran wouldn't need to pursue advanced centrifuge technology to enrich it themselves (WSJ). In the last 2 weeks, Iran announced it has made improvements with A) it's own nuclear research, and B) advanced centrifuge technology to enrich nuclear material - which can make it weapons-grade (WSJ). This is also against a background, under which IAEA and also the British government have released statements saying they believe that Iran is pursuing a Nuke (WSJ).

Regarding the mental state/ideology of Iranian leadership, they do believe that their 'holy mission' is to usher and speed the coming of the 12th Imam (Rosenberg). There is no rationalising; there is no such thing as "mutual deterrence" with someone like this. Mutual deterrence worked in the Cold War, because the Soviets believed they would die also, and that was a deterrent to them. Iranian leadership is totally different. They believe their God will protect them, and that - more importantly - their God *wants* them to create chaos in the world, so that it forces the Imam to appear, and Islam to rise in the world. Rosenberg is a respected source, writing for WSJ, National Review, & Policy Review. US News & World Report called him a "modern Nostradamus".

It's credible for a non-religious Westerner to believe that Khamenei and Ahmedinajad are what a common person would call "crazy" - to believe that they what they believe is to create chaos, usher in the 12th Imam, and world glorification Islam, to their protection and the "Little Satan's" (Israel), and the "Great Satan's" (United States) demise. Logical? To Western's, no. But true nonetheless.

Also, in the last few months, Iran has engaged in terrorism in the U.S. (plans to kill Saudi's October), in India, and Thailand in February, and threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz in January, even though U.S. Forces rescued Iranian fisherman held hostage by pirates... interesting side footnote (WSJ).

We can endlessly ask "how would you feel?". It's less relevant that current policy and action. In the 2000's, Iran has publicly declared that Israel should be "wiped off the face of the Earth", denied the holocaust, and accused the U.S. and the West of being terrorists. Their policy actions are one's of consequence - threatening to close the Strait of Hormuz for example.

Whatever your politics or personal beliefs, this blog is concerned is what to prepare for, watching and concerned with, and these developments and *trends* with Iran, Oil production certainly qualify. Urban Man is right to bring them to your attention if you are preparing yourself for whatever eventualities you may need preparing for. Is any course certain? No. Are we doomed to disaster? Not necessarily. But it is possible. We would all be prudent to keep this in mind, along with our own countries crazy deficit, debt, and spending issues and the risk of hyperinflation, etc., etc., etc. The prudent will prepare for any of these, because it's smart to "Be Prepared" (Boy Scout motto).
